This is the game of Napoleon

This is a card game for anywhere from three to five people. Deal out all the cards except for a small pile for cards the stand in the case of 3 or 4 people, and to cards face down in the case of 5 people.

The first phase of the game is the bidding phase. Starting with the person to the left of the dealer, people bid the number of points they are going to take with a possible partner. They also name a trump suit. The partner is, at this point, unknown. Each card from ten to ace is worth one point. This means there are 20 points possible in the game. Bids have to start at 10 points.

The person who has bid highest gets the contract. They can then call out any one card, and if some other person is holding that card, they are that contract winners partner. If nobody has the card, then nobody is the contract winners partner, and the contract winner is kind of messed over.

The contract winner then picks up the down cards on the table, selects cards from his or her he and which he or she wishes to discard, and then does so.

The next phase of the game is the playing phase. Again, starting with the left of the dealer, people play out their cards in the normal trick taking fashion as found in hearts or spades or bridge. However, it should be noted that there is a rank of suits, namely clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, and in the card of a higher suit takes the trick even if the trick was led in the lower seat. Of course a person can only play cards outside of the lead suit if they are void in that suit.

There are also some special rules on trick taking. They are listed in order of importance, first named is more powerful than any subsequent.

1 The ace of speeds always takes the tick

2 The "True Jack", namely the jack in the trump suit, always takes the trick.

3 The "False jack", namely the jet which is of the same color as the true Jack, takes the trick.

4 If all cards are in the same suit, and the 2 of that suit is played, the 2 takes.

5 The highest card of the declared trump suit takes it.

6 The highest card of the highest suit played takes it.
