The Game of Spit

This is a everyone-play-at-once card game. Lots of fun. Takes from 4 to 6 (possibly up to 8) players.

Everyone gets their own deck. Make sure decks are different. Shuffle, cut, pass to left.

Take your deck and deal 4 cards face up and 11 cards face down. Your goal is to get rid of the face down cards. After everyone has done dealing themselves out, say Go and hop to it! There are no turns.

If you have an ace, put it in the center. Then you can place cards in ascending order, matching suit, on the cards in the center. So, you could play a 2 of hearts on an ace of hearts, etc. If you play a king, play it face down to indicate the pile has been finished. If you play one of your four face up cards, you can move one of your face down cards over and flip it face up.

You can also go throgh the deck 3 at a time, one at a time with the dregs at the end, and play them out too. When you reach the end of the deck, start over at the beginning.

Feel free to carry on and harrangue others as you do this. It may or may not help your play. This process is loosely called witty banter. Regardless of banter, you should only be flailing about and playing cards with one hand. No double-fisting it!

When you are out of face down cards (i.e. they are all in the face up slots or played) yell stop. You can play a few cards before you yell stop, but you can't play cards after anyone yells stop. This would be called cheating.

Scoring

Lose 1 point for every face down card you have when someone yells stop.

Sort the pile of played cards. Get one point per card played.

What next?

Repeat as necessary.

Acknowledgements

Originally I played this while on the Kaye family vacation. It is a real kick. Rules as shown are as given to me by Jofish. Thank you Jofish.

Note

I also played another 2-player variant also called Spit. When no one can play, people say "one-two-three spit!" and flip over a card from their pile into the center. There are only two piles in the center, suit doesn't matter, and you can go up or down in values.
